Multi Tools – How many jobs can we do with JUST 2 tools?!

When it comes to tools, there aren’t many as versatile as the multi tool. Truly the Swiss army knife of the power tool world. With so many uses, it really is essential in any tradies toolbox – we’ve written a whole article on them in case you need to get up to speed – check it out here

You can now take this incredible versatility into the garden with garden multi tools, the all-in-one cordless power tool that even runs on the same battery platform! We’ve even taken a deep dive into those for you here.

To show just how versatile both of these tools are, I’ve selected two Makita models and am going to show you just how many jobs you can achieve with two bodies and a battery! (ok it might need a charge or two) Buckle in – this might take a while!

Cutting

Probably the most obvious, but a multi-tool is GREAT for this, from wood and drywall to carpet, roof tiles and even resin. Attaching the right blade will allow you to achieve clean and quick cuts in almost any material.

Plunge cutting

We’re counting this as a separate job because so many cutting tools can’t achieve this. If you need to cut out a socket, or simply start the cut in the middle of your material, a plunge blade will be your best friend. Keep that jab saw in the toolbox!

We’ve got a perfect starter pack of cutting blades – you can see them here

Sanding and levelling

Again, another job that your multi tool can take over. They come with a range of sanding pads depending on your needs and every grit to achieve the finish you need. For most instances, the multi tool can take over from a conventional cordless sander, saving you money and room in the van.

Scraping/adhesive removal

A typically painful job when you get out the scraper and soon end up with a sore arm. This can be taken on by the multi tool. Simply stick a scraper blade on and let the oscillations do all of the leg work.

Grout removal/routing

Getting to work in a bathroom is hard work. You might be looking for a leak, positioning a new appliance or socket, or simply removing some tiles. The multi tool is fantastic for getting into the grout and removing it really easily. Another job this tool can do to save you time and effort!

Box Cutting

Now, not many people know about box cutters, but they will revolutionise cutting out sockets, especially on a big job. Why cut around each side of the shape when you can do them all at the same time?!

My thoughts

So there you have it – I’ve managed to write an entire year’s worth of jobs that can be achieved with just these two tools running on the same battery. That is crazy in itself, but there will be even more attachments coming in the future that will only increase the versatility of these two tools. The only question you need to ask yourself is: Why don’t you have one in your toolbox and the other in your shed?!
