Now, if you own Makita tools, I guarantee you’ll have at least one of these. Makita is one of the largest manufacturers of power tools in the world and their 18v platform is used by tradies worldwide. There is, however, a range in the Makita cordless arsenal that we feel goes under the radar.
We’re talking cordless gardening tools! In an industry dominated by petrol and corded tools, cordless tools are quickly becoming many people’s first choice, from homeowners, all the way up to professional landscapers and gardeners.

In this article, I’ll aim to give you just a taste of what’s on offer, but with over 80 cordless Makita Gardening listings on our website, I wouldn’t blame you for diving right in and looking for yourself here.
Otherwise, I’ll break down the tools into their categories and provide a few different options to help you start or expand your Makita gardening tool collection!
Makita Cordless Lawnmowers
Now, when you think of lawnmowers, you probably think of that long cable you need to try to avoid running over as you move around the lawn or the big loud petrol models that you hear on those hot summer mornings (often way too early). Makita’s cordless gardening range eliminates the need for cables and those noisy petrol motors, providing instant, clean power when needed. We stock over 10 different Makita cordless lawnmowers on our site with a host of different power and size options.
Makita DLM330 – 18V LXT Cordless Lawnmower
The only singular 18v battery option in our range (we’ll get onto that in a minute), the Makita DLM330 is a 3-in-1 cutting, mulching & collecting mower. It has a 330mm cutting diameter and the mulching function returns fine grass clippings back to the garden so the nutrients can be absorbed into the soil.
The mower can cut between 20 and 75mm and has a 30 litre collection box. It also offers a soft start, and electric brake and can be folded down for easy transport.
Makita DLM406 – 36V (Twin 18V) Brushless LXT Cordless Lawnmower
36v will be a recurring theme in this article, many garden tools need that little bit more oomph to increase power and run time. Makita has achieved this with their 36v system, which is powered by two 18v batteries running in series to a more powerful 36v DC motor.
This mower features a brushless motor and its 460mm cutting diameter is recommended for lawns up to 800m². It has constant speed control, a soft start and even a ‘quiet mode’ so you won’t annoy the neighbours. A whopping 10 cutting height adjustments between 20-75mm will have your lawn millimetre perfect, and the mulching mode will ensure it always looks its best.
Makita DLM533 – 36V (Twin 18V) LXT Brushless Cordless Lawnmower
This 530mm cutting diameter model is designed for professional use, it covers up to 2,300m² (8 tennis courts!) when utilising the twin 18v system and is equipped with 4 battery ports and a switch to let you select which pair of batteries to use, eliminating the need to wait around for batteries to charge on those larger jobs.
10 cutting settings range from 100-20mm and it features the soft start, quiet mode and self-propelling features of the other cordless models. A whopping 70 litre collection box will keep you cutting all day long!

Makita Cordless Hedge Trimmers
Now whilst you might be more familiar with the corded hedge trimmer, Makita’s cordless gardening range cuts that cord for maximum freedom whilst not sacrificing power.
Makita DUH523 18V LXT Cordless Hedge Trimmers
The DUH523 is perfect for trimming back those shrubs and hedges, it features a 520mm bar and can cut branches up to an impressive 15mm in diameter! The bar has non-electrolyzed nickel plating with an anti-abrasion surface to keep it sharper for longer. It’s lightweight at just 3.3kg and has a soft rubberised grip with anti-vibration technology to ensure maximum user comfort when in use.
Makita DUG601 18V LXT Brushless Cordless Hedge Trimmer
Another step up in power, this 600mm brushless hedge trimmer will tackle branches up to 23.5mm, making light work of those heavier hedges and bushes. The rear handle rotates to 5 positions for increased comfort whatever the angle. A brushless motor and curved blades reduce friction and lead to increased run time for your battery. All this whilst weighing just 3.8kg!
Makita UH014G 40V Max XGT Brushless Cordless Hedge Trimmer
The first 40V Makita Cordless Gardening tool in this list and what a tool it is! This brushless 750mm will also make light work of branches up to 23.5mm but the brushless XGT motor will see even more runtime for your battery juice. It also comes with new triple-edge teeth designed to catch and hold branches as well as a chip collector to make cleanup a breeze. Variable speed modes as well as a trigger allow easy control and the ergonomic handle and low noise are designed with the user in mind.
(side note, 40V tools are a separate platform and will not work with 18v batteries)

Makita Cordless Line Trimmers/Brush Cutters
Getting the trimming done without the need for a cord or a petrol backpack is an exciting prospect. The Makita Cordless strimmer range will have you wondering how you ever did without one!
Makita DUR181 18V LXT Cordless Line Trimmer
Lightweight but powerful the Makita DUR181 features a 260mm cutting diameter. An adjustable head and 180mm adjustable shaft alongside a rubberised soft grip handle ensure you can find a comfortable working position.
Makita DUR190UZX3 18V LXT Brushless Cordless Line Trimmer
This brushless DUR190UZX3 offers increased runtime and performance over the previous model. A larger 300mm cutting diameter, paired with a symmetrical handle design for increased comfort with controls on the handle so they are always at hand. You can swap the nylon string for a more robust brush-cutting blade (sold separately) to get into the thick stuff. The RPM will change automatically depending on the thickness of the weeks you are cutting so you’ll always get optimal performance.
Makita UR002G 40V XGT Brushless Cordless Line Trimmer
Running off the 40V XGT system, the UR002G has a 350mm cutting diameter for those really heavy-duty jobs. It’s designed to perform to the level of its petrol counterpart and has 3-speed settings as well as a soft start. The automatic torque drive technology adjusts automatically based on load.
Active feedback sensing will automatically cut the machine out if you hit a snag. There’s a reverse mode to help clear debris from the line and you can attach the brush cutter blade to make light work of even the biggest job.

Makita DUB362 36V (Twin 18V) Brushless Cordless Blower
This was developed as one of the most powerful cordless blowers on the market and can far outperform much of the competition. Its 36v motor delivers 21,500 rpm which can move a whopping 54m³ of air a second (that’s some serious power). This blower is actually pretty quiet when you look at the power it produces so you won’t need to worry about working in noise-sensitive environments with this one! As always the brushless motor ensures maximum efficiency and run time from your two 18v batteries.
Makita UB001GZ 40V XGT Brushless Cordless Blower
The absolute powerhouse of the blower world, the UB001GZ can move up to a massive 64m³ of air a second, enough to move all the debris you could want! It has a cruise control mode so you can lock the trigger at a desired speed and its 3-stage telescopic nozzle adjusts to cover wider areas or more precise movements.
It even has a boost mode to cover those really stubborn areas. Overall this tool will outperform its petrol counterpart and will save you time and money in the long run.
